Happy Birthday to our Cinco de Mayo girl.

A LONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY... a nine-year-old girl was in the midst of an epic battle with "Tuna the Tumor".  The enemy had kept hidden for most of her life, but was now gathering forces and making covert attacks on her body. It would be another five weeks before she and her top commanders even knew who the enemy was. IT IS A DARK TIME FOR THE REBELLION.

Addie Art!
Ok, enough Star Wars silliness. Just in case you missed it on our Facebook page, Instagram account, Pinterest page, and everywhere on our Etsy website, WaTurHill Creations supports brain tumor research! We donate at least 10% of every purchase to Mark Linder Walk For The Mind. May is brain tumor awareness month and our entire family is involved in supporting this organization and the work they are doing in Peoria, Illinois. Why? Four years ago, our Addison began her brain tumor battle. In that process, she also started raising money to help others. Weeks after surgery she set up a stand in her front yard, sold Addie Art!, and gave the money to the hospital. Well, it took the grown-up ladies in the family a few more years to get going, but basically Addie Art! was the inspiration for WaTurHill Creations.

MLWFTM 2017
A NEW HOPE... she defeated "Tuna the Tumor" and has gone on to lead a normal, healthy, (gulp) teenage existence. Now there was an entire book's worth of drama I left out of this telling of Addison's journey. That's not my story to tell, although I hope that one day it is written down so that it may encourage others in similar battles. So happy birthday KID. Keep inspiring those around you to create beauty, celebrate life, and worship our Lord.

Enjoy this day the Lord has given us.

We do not actively seek donations, but they are gladly accepted. Here are links to the organization we support, and to our fundraising page.

 Vintage Chicks
Did you know today is National Bugs Bunny Day?

BRING YOUR CHICK TO CHURCH DAY.  Yes, this is a blatant play on Bring Your Kid to Work Day. I had a request for one of our Chicks and the easiest way to meet this friend was at church yesterday morning. She already has one of our Chicks, but declared "It is lonely and needs a friend or two." So I gathered up our brood and brought them along. Four of them found new homes, but the ones left behind got lots of love. It's hard to resist not picking up one of these rice-filled bags of cuteness.

WaTurHill CreationsWe have been blessed with several old quilts that have been well used. If the quilt is beyond repair, we upcycle. One such quilt, made with 1930's and 1940's feed sack fabrics, upcycled into our Vintage Chicks. Another quilt we are upcycling made its way onto an apron front. What an honor to preserve someone else's creation and see it treasured by a new generation.

I'm not sure what today's adventure will bring; upcycled or new. It doesn't really matter because the highlight of this week is spending time with all of the creators at WaTurHill. Family time is our true treasure.

Enjoy this day the Lord has given us.

Maybe this blog thing is no longer a test.

WHEN JOSEPH, MOSES, AND ESTHER JOIN YOUR HAPPY DANCE.  We hit a big milestone this week. A brick and mortar store will be selling our Creations and we filled our first order for them. That sounds so official and fancy. It's really not. The store owner is the "Hill" part of WaTurHill Creations. Part of this first order was easy to fill; my sister and I just shopped WaTurHill on Etsy. The other half of the order has taken months of prototypes and discussions to put together. But we now make aprons and quilted wall hangings. Well, Mom makes aprons. I just advise on patterns and color choices and then cheer from the sidelines.

I like my role as team cheerleader. Most days. Especially when we're trying something new and out of our comfort zone. Our Joseph apron took a lot of cheering. Not the pattern itself, but the material choice and design of the one and only, unique because Mom said never again, Joseph Tee of Many Colors Apron. The Moses Apron got its name because the fabric we used for the prototype reminds me of the Hebrew cloth baby Moses was wrapped in when he was sent down the Nile in a basket in The Ten Commandments. Love that movie! So far I'm the only one in the family who sees the resemblance. So when we went to create our third apron, which is a more traditional ladies style, we had to keep up the Biblical theme and Esther (the Queen) Apron was named.

During the time Mom and I finished putting this order together, our Etsy shop was hopping. WaTurHill hit a milestone online that day too. It got rather obnoxiously joyful with all those happy dances. Made my cheerleader duties easy.

Enjoy this day the Lord has given us.

This is my second post, but it's still just a test. I seem to have a theme; technologies I don't like but find myself using. This needs to stop. I fear Twitter may be post number three.

#DallasTurner #waturhillcreationsPINTEREST; IT'S ONLY TAKEN ME SEVEN ATTEMPTS. I sheepishly admit to opening and then closing several Pinterest accounts over the years. At first, I loved looking at all the possibilities. But it didn't take long to realize I was spending way too much time on this site. And I'm a cautious pinner. I'm not quick to pin any and everything that catches my eye. So I never engaged/investigated Pinterest beyond window shopping. Inevitably I would come across a pin that I wanted to look at and Pinterest required me to have an account to view it. Account numbers 2-6 were opened. And then quickly closed because I would click on a pin, thinking I'm going to see an article or website with more information on what caught my attention, and poof, I'm lost in a never-ending click cycle four boards deep. So, much like blogging, I put Pinterest on my mental list of online worlds I'm not interested in.

About a year ago I opened Account number 7 so I could share craft ideas and text messages with WaTurHill's youngest crafter. Occasionally I would pin creations from our Etsy shop, but until recently I've pretty much ignored this social media platform. And even after spending the last three days immersed in articles, how-to videos, and trying things out on WaTurHill's site, I haven't changed my mind. The world of Pinterest just doesn't excite me. However, I have come to appreciate it for the marketing tool it is. Thanks for supporting WaTurHill in all our crazy adventures.

Enjoy this day the Lord has given us.

This is a basically a test. I have never blogged. I have never really wanted to blog. I don't even read that many blogs. But as my online world is expanding, I'm learning that I must also venture into waters that I have never disturbed.

I HAVE TO GO TO THE POST OFFICE ON TAX DAY! I have two USPS priority mail boxes waiting for me to deliver them to the post office on their busiest day of the year. I say this tongue in cheek. It's a great problem. I made a sale on Etsy last night and a sale on eBay this morning. We still do a happy dance every time the phone "cha-chings". The "We" includes my Mom. She gets a text message from me after every favorited item, comment, and sale.

Selling online allows us to meet and connect with people across the United States. Yesterday I talked with someone who lives in Florida and purchased a few UFO fabric stashes from us. After she purchased last night she favorited our Etsy shop (woo hoo) and left us a note saying she loves our shop's story. Someone we would never have met or talked to if not online, now follows along to learn more about our family and why we sell our creations. I say that's worth battling the post office parking lot today.

Enjoy this day the Lord has given us.
